God Calls Abram

Genesis 12:1-9

God calls Abram to leave his home, his family, and everything familiar, promising to make him a great nation and bless all peoples through him. Abram obeys, and his faith becomes the model for trusting God's word.

Genesis 12:10-20

Fearing for his life in Egypt, Abram asks Sarai to say she is his sister, putting her in danger to protect himself. God intervenes anyway, showing that his plan moves forward even through our fear and failure.

Abram and Lot Go Separate Ways

Genesis 13

When conflict breaks out between their herdsmen, Abram gives Lot first choice of the land, trusting God to provide for him. God then renews his promise, showing that generosity and faith are never foolish.

God's Promise to Abraham

Genesis 15

God takes Abram outside and tells him to count the stars, promising that his descendants will be just as many. Abram believes God, and God credits it to him as righteousness, a picture of how we are saved through faith in Jesus.

The Story of Hagar

Genesis 16

Sarai gives her servant Hagar to Abram to have a child, but when Hagar becomes pregnant, conflict tears the household apart. God sees Hagar alone in the wilderness and speaks to her personally, showing that he sees and cares for every person.

Genesis 17

God changes Abram's name to Abraham and establishes the sign of circumcision as a seal of his everlasting covenant promise. Kids learn that God's promises are not based on what we do but on who God is.

Genesis 18:1-15

Three mysterious visitors come to Abraham's tent and announce that Sarah will have a son within a year. Sarah laughs in disbelief, and God's response is the heart of this lesson: nothing is too hard for the Lord.

Genesis 18:16-19:29

God tells Abraham he is about to judge Sodom, and Abraham boldly intercedes for any righteous people inside. God rescues Lot and his family, showing that he is both perfectly just and full of mercy.

God Protects Sarah from Abimelech

Genesis 20

Abraham repeats the same mistake in Gerar that he made in Egypt, calling Sarah his sister, and puts her in danger again. God protects Sarah through a dream and warns Abimelech, showing that his covenant plan cannot be derailed by human weakness.

God Blesses Isaac and Saves Ishmael

Genesis 21

Sarah gives birth to Isaac, the promised son, and then demands that Hagar and Ishmael be sent away. God hears Ishmael crying in the wilderness and provides water, showing that he cares for those who are forgotten by others.

God Provides a Lamb

Genesis 22

God tests Abraham by asking him to sacrifice his beloved son Isaac on Mount Moriah, and at the last moment provides a ram in the thicket. This is one of the clearest pictures in the entire Bible of what God would one day do for us through Jesus.

Genesis 24

Abraham sends his trusted servant on a journey to find a wife for Isaac, and the servant prays for God to guide every step. God answers the prayer in real time, bringing Rebekah to the well, showing kids how God leads when we trust him.
